Music was my first language. Even before I could speak, music became the place where I learned to create.

Throughout elementary school, I learned Piano and Classical Indian Carnatic vocals, but even after I picked

up flute for my middle school band, but I never felt I was truly expressing myself.

It was finally in 8th grade, when I decided to drop my perpetual

practicing and pursue a form of music that reflected me: Indian film music covers. Unlike Western music, which

centers on albums, popular music in the Indian subcontinent is woven into cinema, with most movies

featuring five to six full-length songs. I wanted to not just replicate these songs, but to enhance them,

As much as I had collaborated in High Octavez, I would collaborate more in my studies. From

the moment I entered high school, my friends and I formed a joint study circle where

we would discuss upcoming assignments and tests. Before we learned the biological concept of

mutualism, we were practicing it through 10 PM Discord calls. Midway through ninth grade, I added
|
||||
another friend to our group chat...then two. Within a matter of 30 minutes, we had invited over

||||
30 people to join our newly made study server for the Plano East Class of 2027. Before long,

||||
rules had to be set, and as the server owner, I had made it clear that no swearing would be
|
||||
allowed. For obvious reasons, this did not sit well with my peers, and moderation quickly became
|
||||
a nightmare. For rogue non-Plano East students invading the server to a perpetual spew of racial
|
||||
slurs, we were quickly overwhelmed. Every loophole was penetrated; every vulnerability was exploited.

At that exact moment, I began using my coding skills to our advantage, developing Discord bots to
|
||||
manage moderation. I began outsourcing work to other moderators and study guides, leading
|
||||
a group of nearly 200 members to create a haven for studious students

||||
Before long, all members required school ID-based verification, and I had

integrated AI into moderation to prevent penetration. At the end of my 10th grade, nearly 60%

My heart was pounding relentlessly: every second felt like an eternity. It was my first robotics

competition, and my code would determine our team's advancement. As the delay continues, my mind

races with all the possible errors. Finally, the announcer begins his countdown, and all I can think of

is the robot crashing into the wall, ending our competition. The buzzer sounds, I press play — nothing.

||||
No movement, the robot simply stays in place. As I watched the program fail over the next
|
||||
thirty seconds, all I felt was pure embarrassment. Losing in the final round, I promised myself that I would
|
||||
my code would never perform so poorly again. \\\\

And so it began, my alcoholic addition towards the First Tech Challenge (FTC). Entering high school,
|
||||
I switched from my middle school team to a small community team consisting of the same crew from
|
||||
Schimelpfenig Robotics. At this point, I was an experienced programmer in FTC, but my actual skillset
|
||||
matched that of a grape. I knew no programming languages, I couldn't understand high-level concepts, and
|
||||
I was yet to learn even 5\% of the mathematics needed for autonomous navigation. I was thrown into the
|
||||
deep end of the pool, and our team had to stay afloat. \\\\
|
||||
I learned. I learned the basics of the Java
|
||||
programming language, and I had joined the school's CS Club to better my skills. Before I knew it,
|
||||
I was able to make our robot fully move and score points using only Java. As my team's sole programmer,
|
||||
I slowly learned how to use sensors, motors, and servos. Progress was finally made. Our team had mustered
|
||||
enough capability to become a state finalist, and we were finally excelling. Entering my sophomore year,
|
||||
I became a relatively decent programmer, and our team had expanded to include other programmers. That Summer,
|
||||
I took on a challenge to code an autonomous pathing system, and after 4 months of constant iteration,
|
||||
my code could finally move a robot from point to point accurately. Leading our software unit, I had
|
||||
expanded our autonomous and driver operated capabilities to a world-class level, ranking in the top 30 globally
|
||||
in autonomous rank. Today, as I continue to spend countless hours on robotics, I am using my knowledge to
|
||||
expand our team's capabilities. Having learned multivariable calculus and qualifying for the AIME, my math
|
||||
skills were finally being applied to my passion of robotics. Hopefully, our team can break our final barrier,
|
||||
and win the world championship this year.

Everything in my life had perfectly modeled the stereotypical nerd: poor posture, obsession with CS, and

having more screen time on my calculator. Three months ago, however, I finally broke this mold

by founding my school's cricket club. After a wrist fracture had brought my competitive career to a complete

standstill, I was determined to I was determined to get back into the sport I loved somehow.

When I realized that a school with nearly 600 Desi students had no cricket team, I started

||||
the Plano East Cricket Club with a few friends. Unlike the competitive teams I had played in,

this club would play with a softer taped-tennis ball, reducing the need for equipment (and costs).

At first, the club started as a way to rally the cricket-players within the school, but a lack of attendance

||||
opened the club towards complete beginners. It proved a daunting task to not only play, but to also teach

the sport as a semi-coach, and I was learning new coaching methods to keep practices engaging. As we play our

games, we have always been severe underdogs (and lose terribly), but our team's growth from complete scratch

gives me a sense of closure in continuing the sport I suddenly left. \\\\

In addition to helping my school community learn cricket, I have also sought to help the larger community

through my school's National Honor Society (NHS). In a competitive application process, I was fortunate enough to be

selected as the NHS technology officer for the largest chapter in the world. In this role, I have sought to

On May 24, 2025, I officially had nothing to do. The last day of school had just ended, and the Summer break

||||
encountered them all. It was February 2024, my freshman year, and we had ten
|
||||
minutes to take the field for our First Tech Challenge (FTC) League Finals.
|
||||
My heart pounded as keys clattered beneath my flying fingers. My code was
|
||||
broken, and for the finals, it had to work. The merciless clock ticked away,
|
||||
and with seconds to go, I finally compiled the code. There was no time to
|
||||
test, hardly any to breathe. We took the field, and my finger hovered over
|
||||
the play button. Time paused. The buzzer sounded, and I pressed play. Success.
|
||||
In two minutes and thirty seconds, we won.
|
||||
|
||||
Seven months earlier, I didn't know what a variable was. I was fully into
|
||||
music, and programming was yet to cross my radar. When my friend started a
|
||||
robotics team, I joined on a whim. It was that abrupt decision that started
|
||||
my journey into robotics. Progress was painstakingly slow; it took me two
|
||||
full months to make a motor turn. But gradually, I became hooked. Like a
|
||||
sponge, I absorbed everything: tutorials, documentation, and even Stack
|
||||
Overflow threads. Eventually, I taught myself enough Java to become a
|
||||
functional FTC programmer.
|
||||
|
||||
As the season progressed, we became a competitive team, and my knowledge was
|
||||
expanding in parallel. On that competition day, something just clicked. It
|
||||
wasn't the win that truly made me happy. It was the realization that my own
|
||||
code produced tangible outputs. At that very moment, I knew that I wanted to
|
||||
continue working in a STEM field, and I was ready to keep coding on.
|
||||
|
||||
But that readiness was tested in September 2024. Somewhat naively, I decided
|
||||
to build a machine learning model to predict gait patterns in Parkinson's
|
||||
Disease for my sophomore-year Science Fair project. The only problem is that
|
||||
I had no clue how. So I dove in: Python syntax, NumPy arrays, signal filtering,
|
||||
feature extraction, and model architectures. I had entered unfamiliar territory,
|
||||
and each concept I learned brought new confusion. After two months of relentless
|
||||
reading, coding, and debugging, I managed to transform raw sensor data into a
|
||||
working classification model. Somewhere between the first error message and
|
||||
the final 96\% accuracy, I had begun to absorb a new discipline.
|
||||
|
||||
I could have stopped there, but I realized that a working model on my laptop
|
||||
wasn't going to help any Parkinson's patients, and I needed to embed my model
|
||||
into a complete hardware device. This task was beyond daunting, as I had to
|
||||
venture into the foreign territory of hardware and electrical engineering.
|
||||
With my engineering teacher guiding me, I eventually learned the basics. After
|
||||
countless 2 AM KiCAD tutorial sessions, I finally had a working design for a
|
||||
custom printed circuit board (PCB) housing a sensor and microcontroller. Two
|
||||
weeks later, my PCB arrived, and after soldering all my components, it didn't
|
||||
work. My heart sank. In desperation, I resoldered each joint carefully and
|
||||
tried again. Somehow, it worked. After writing some C++ software for the
|
||||
device, I had something that actually worked. The project eventually made it
|
||||
to the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), placing 3rd in
|
||||
Robotics and Intelligent Machines. What struck me most wasn't the placement,
|
||||
but the fact that six months earlier, I wouldn't have understood any of it.
|
||||
|
||||
Throughout high school, I've taught myself many disciplines, from FTC
|
||||
programming in Java to designing circuits. The Wright Scholar program provides
|
||||
an opportunity to apply my skills to current and critical research. I'm
|
||||
intrigued by AFRL's Sensors Directorate, where I hope to deepen my understanding
|
||||
of signal processing while contributing to sensor exploitation technologies.
|
||||
I'm equally drawn to Human Performance Wing's work with multimodal sensing to
|
||||
monitor and enhance human performance. Moreso, the chance to work alongside
|
||||
domain experts who can accelerate my growth as an engineer and developer is
|
||||
invaluable to me. Whether working with sensor fusion or biomedical sensing,
|
||||
as a sponge eager to learn, AFRL is exactly where I need to be.
